Of course some of the major highlights of my trip include seeing the incredible and historical sites one can see in Peru however here are unexpected highlights I found (with my personal pictures included).
Inti Raymi
The month of June is a month full of festivities to celebrate the Inca Sun God. The streets are filled with parades every day of the week.

The large festival on June 24th was held at a site called Sacsauhuaman which is actually pronounced sexy-woman.

Mercado San Pedro
I frequented San Pedro Market multiple times throughout my stay in Cusco. You can find absolutely everything you need here. Not only do they have the best deals on typical Peruvian clothing but they also have fresh produce as well as others goods. Be sure to check out the rows of "Juice ladies" who serve you fresh juice in to-go bags.
Ziplining in the jungle
During my trek to Macchu pichu I decided to take a detour to do the zip lining which was offered through the tour company I booked my trip with. It was such an incredible experience flying through the jungle. My adventurous side got to me and I decided to try out the flying monkey (which I am doing in the picture).
The children of Peru
Always dressed in colorful garb, the children of Peru are adorable. Given the poor nature of the country though the children are often found begging for money, selling local crafts or taking pictures with/for tourists in the hope they will give them money.
Chocolate Bars!
Ever since I was a little girl my dad always refereed to me as "Princessa". Now my entire family seems to refer to me as Princessa. The second I spotted this chocolate bar I immediately sent a picture to my family.
This website rates Princesa 6/10 even though I don't agree! It was my favorite candy (maybe I am a bit biased though).

Salineras (Salt Mines)
When I was planning my trip to Peru I had hoped to travel to Bolivia to visit the beautiful salt flats. Unfortunately logistically it didn't work out but we did get to visit the salt mines. Although very different and less extravagant it was still a site to see. Over 2000 salt pools are in the village of Maras. We got to taste the water and sample different foods made from the salt pools seen in the photos.
