What To Wear
Peruvian winter (June – September) is the driest season and therefore the best time of year to travel, especially if you are planning to visit Cuzco area and trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
Peruvian summer (November – March) is the wettest season and with frequent heavy showers. The temperatures are higher in summer, but the nights can get very cold.
Spring (April – May) and Autumn (October) are the most unpredictable seasons with varying weather conditions. The weather can be quite good at this time of year and it’s a lot less busy than the Peruvian winter months.
Travellers advice:
- Wear lots of layers as the temperatures can change quickly when the sun comes out or when it gets cloudy. If you’re travelling in the rainy season bring a waterproof jacket or poncho.
- I travelled in June which is considered the winter. It was chilly at times but in some areas such as the amazon it was very hot and humid. During the rainy season it may be difficult to see certain sites such as Machu Picchu as the area is known to have mud slides (but this can also happen at any time of the year)
- Travelling with a backpack is probably the best option if you're going to be moving from city to city. Peru is filled with cobblestone roads, many steps and mountains and a backpack will be your best bet.
